What is an SPU (Service Processing Unit)?

An SPU (Service Processing Unit) is DocRouter's billing unit. Every paid operation — OCR, document extraction, and Document Agent chat — uses the same formula: SPUs = ceil(2 × estimated cloud cost / price per SPU), with a minimum floor of 1 SPU per 25 pages (or 1 SPU per agent LLM call). Embedded-text extraction (PyMuPDF) is always free. Each account starts with 100 SPU credits to try DocRouter at no cost.

When should I use a monthly plan?

Monthly plans are best for regular document processing. They include SPUs at better per-unit pricing, collaboration features (Team plan), and predictable monthly costs.

When should I use credits instead of a monthly plan?

Credits are perfect for testing and getting started, ideal for occasional or one-off document processing, with no monthly commitment required. You pay only for what you use.

How much does DocRouter cost?

DocRouter offers an Individual plan at $250/month (5,000 SPUs at $0.05 each), a Team plan at $1,000/month (25,000 SPUs at $0.04 each), and custom Enterprise pricing. All accounts start with 100 free SPU credits.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every new DocRouter account includes 100 free SPU credits — no credit card required. This lets you upload documents and test AI extraction before committing to a plan.

SPUs = ceil(2 × estimated cloud cost ÷ price per SPU)

The factor of 2 covers infrastructure and overhead on top of raw cloud cost. A minimum floor also applies: at least 1 SPU per 25 pages for OCR and document extraction, and 1 SPU per agent LLM call. Embedded-text extraction (PyMuPDF) is free.

SPU rates and computation methods are subject to change. We will provide advance notice of any material changes, and updates will apply only to usage on or after the effective date.

About Enterprise Plans

Enterprise Plans include configuration and dataset evaluation services. On-premises / on-VPC installations require an Enterprise Plan.
